In the aftermath
of the Munich Olympics massacre, the decision was made to create a unique
force of federal police officers who can respond to any terrorist attack
on Germany's soil or anywhere in the world. Since it's inception in 1972, GSG-9
(Grenzschutzgruppe 9) has earned for itself a reputation as being
one the world's best.
The spectrum of task within GSG-9 is very broad. Basically, every operator
in GSG-9 is interchangeable. But each of the three operational units has
it's own additional qualifications: The first unit is sniper qualified,
the second unit is qualified in combat diving and does maritime
operations, and the third unit is qualified in free-fall parachuting.
