The Australian
Army's elite unit, Special Air Service Regiment (SASR),
was first activated in 1957 and is said to be modeled after the famed
British SAS. But unlike their British counterpart, SASR has been required to
take on almost the entire range of special forces roles such as deep ground
reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, maritime operations, airborne
operations, combat search and rescue, direct action, training of guerillas,
and counter-terrorism. |
