Made up of volunteers of different nationalities, the
French Foreign Legion (La Legion
Etrangere) is a professional fighting unit that is an integral part of the French Army. Armed and equipped as the rest of the French Army, the Legion can be rapidly deployed to any hot-spot in the world. Among the Legion's combat units are the
2e Regiment Etranger de Parachutistes (2REP), a rapid deployment airborne-commando regiment; and
6e Regiment Etranger de Genie (6REG), an engineering regiment that includes a detachment responsible for combat swimmer operations and underwater explosive ordnance disposal.
