The Royal Marines
are the Royal Navy's infantry, and provide a Commando Brigade for
amphibious operations. On permanent readiness, Royal Marines operational
units are self-contained to enable them to be deployed anywhere in the
world, either in amphibious shipping or by air if necessary, to conduct a
variety of military operations, ranging from peacekeeping to full-scale
